Michael Woods insists there is no reason to panic after back-to-back defeats for Hartlepool United, writes Richard Mennear.
And the 25-year-old has backed Pools to hit the goal trail and get back to winning ways soon because of the amount of chances the team is creating.
But we have to find consistency and be better as a team, for sure.
The 4-1 defeat to Luton Town was a hefty blow to a Pools side looking to bounce back after the 3-0 humbling by Bristol Rovers.
Defeat left Pools 17th in League Two, but Woods is adamant the goals will soon start flowing for Ronnie Moore’s side.
And the midfield schemer has urged Pools to loosen the shackles and have a ‘right go’ in the upcoming double header of away games at Northampton town on Saturday and Dagenham and Redbridge the week after.
Woods said: “The only positive is that last year we were losing games and not creating.
“We felt when we conceded one it was game over.
“But now we are always in games, even at 3-1 down (against Luton) we have still been creating chances.
“We stick together though.
“We got a result last week at Yeovil, a horrible game, a scrappy win which lacked quality, but the sort of game you enjoy to win.
“There are two away games to come and let’s have a go because three or four wins together and you are right up there.
“But we have to find consistency and be better as a team, for sure.”
In the end, Pools were comfortably beaten by Luton Town despite dominating the opening 45 minutes and creating 17 chances over the course of the 90 minutes, Rakish Bingham the chief culprit in front of goal.
Woods admits it was a ‘nightmare’ result against John Still’s side, one of the biggest spenders in League Two.
The former Leeds United and Chelsea youth believes the side will bounce back strongly from successive home defeats.
But he has called on the squad to prove themselves against the better sides in the division.
“It was a nightmare because we were well in it,” admitted Woods.
“Look at their squad, budget and players and they will be up there.
“Luton and Portsmouth are the two who are having a right go and you want to compare yourself against them.”
