NEW boy Colin Nish can’t wait to get to work at Hartlepool United.
The powerful striker will report to Maiden Castle in Durham on Friday with his new team-mates for the start of pre-season training.
Nish admits there is work to be done, having hardly featured in the Hibernian team in the latter days of the Scottish Premier League programme.
The 30-year-old last made it out onto the field on April 9, when he came off the bench and played the final 33 minutes of a 1-0 win at Aberdeen.
His final involvement was the following weekend when he was an unused sub in the 2-1 home defeat by Hamilton.
Nish explained that, as a result, he is not in peak shape.
The Scotsman, pictured with boss Mick Wadsworth, is determined to make his mark at Pools – and in England – and is relishing getting down to business on Friday.
“I can’t wait,” he said. “I need a good pre-season because I’ve not played much football this year.
“I’m looking forward to getting back into training – a good pre-season will get me perfectly fit for the new campaign. I’m delighted to be here and I hope I can do well.”
Wadsworth is delighted by the capture of Nish – and his other three summer arrivals.
“Of the players available to sign, Colin is one I targeted quite early on,” said Wadsworth.
“Last season at Hibs was quite a poor one for him – that’s why he was available. But these things happen and I’m very happy we’ve got him.”
Wadsworth explained that people should not be fooled into thinking that at 6ft 3in, Nish is solely in the side for his physical prowess.
“He’s better than that,” said the Yorkshireman. “I know how good he is because he’s played against a team of mine before.
“Colin’s a very clever player and his football ability will suit what we hope to be about this season.”
Wadsworth said that the arrival of Nish will be the last bit of transfer business.
“That’s it,” he said. “I’m happy with the squad we’ve got. We’ve got 23 pros and we’ve got a real good balance – we’ve got cover in every position.
“Their signings add to the balance we’ve got in the squad.”
