DAN Jones has penned a new contract at Hartlepool United.
The defender, happy at centre-half or left-back, has only made one League Two appearance for the club – a substitute appearance in the home defeat by Mansfield Town in March.
He was also in the club’s match-day 18 in the latter weeks of the season without coming off the bench.
But he has shown enough on the club’s training ground at Maiden Castle, and in the reserve side, to earn himself an extended stay at Victoria Park.
“I’m delighted with the new deal,” the 19-year-old, from Bishop Auckland, said. “I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a contract.
“But now I have I can go out there and really enjoy my football and show what I can do.”
Jones is the latest young player to put pen to paper at Victoria Park.
Full-backs Jordan Richards and Darren Holden, both 20, signed season-long extensions.
Jones added: “As soon as I made my debut (against Mansfield), I just wanted more.
“I want to come back for pre-season as fit as I can be, get really involved and hopefully get more chances in the first team.”
