Kevin Phillips endured more play-off final misery today as Blackpool lost 2-1 to West Ham, with Ricardo Vaz Te grabbing a late winner for the Hammers.

Sunderland legend Phillips played in the Black Cats’ play-off final loss to Charlton at Wembley in 1998, and suffered again with the Seasiders – after being given the nod to start.

Carlton Cole gave West Ham the lead in the first half, but Thomas Ince – son of Paul – levelled early in the second half.

Extra time looked certain until Vaz Te pounced three minutes from time, to take Sam Allardyce’s men back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
