Newcastle slumped to a 5-2 Premier League defeat at a Clint Dempsey-inspired Fulham – after leading at half-time.
Danny Guthrie’s storming long-range strike had Alan Pardew’s men in front just before the break, but Fulham turned on the style in the second half to finish convincing winners.
Four goals in a sensational16-minute period early in the second period left Newcastle reeling. Danny Murphy and Bobby Zamora converted penalties either side of a Dempsey double, and the American had a late third – after quick feet from Hatem Ben Arfa cut the Londoners’ lead to 4-2 in the closing stages.
