Sunderland winger Ahmed Elmohamady has reunited with Black Cats boss Steve Bruce on a season-long loan, writes Chris Young.
The Egyptian had grown frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities at the Stadium of Light after failing to start under Martin O’Neill.
West Ham had been keeping tabs on Elmohamady, but never firmed up their interest.
And that left Bruce, sacked as Sunderland boss last December, in pole position to take the 24-year-old to Hull, who now boast Egyptian owners.
Sunderland have inserted a January recall clause in Elmohamady’s loan move, in case they are plagued by injuries at the turn of the year.
But the Egyptian international, who joined Sunderland in a a permanent deal last summer after a year’s loan, will provide a boost to Bruce who had been chasing the former ENPPI man for several weeks.
