THE first joint National Championships at Leamington Spa will come to an end this weekend after four solid weeks of action.
Following on from the national fours title, Silksworth’s David Bolt’s hopes of completing a double were dashed in the first round.
Drawn on an end rink, the Silksworth star was narrowly beaten 21-19 by Buckinghamshire’s Richard Reid.
The other Durham representative was Darlington RA’s Andrew Kirtland but a 21-20 preliminary round defeat ended his hopes.
In the Senior Singles, Houghton Dairy Lane’s Jimmy McKinney’s hopes were ended at the quarter-finals stage, Northamptonshire’s Keith Heights inflicting a 21-15 defeat.
Earlier, the Houghton star defeated past winner Sussex’s Bill Crittle 21-16.
One of the final events of the championships is the Mixed Fours. The area is represented by Houghton Diary Lane’s Susan Forster, Jimmy McKinney, Joan Rodgerson and John Thurlbeck. In the last 16, the Diary Lane quartet will face a squad from Berkshire.
