Fired-up Clarets cut away allocations for Turf Moor
Sunderland fans will have a reduced ticket allocation for the Premier League trip to Burnley on September 19.
The Black Cats have filled the 4,000-seat away end at Turf Moor in recent visits, but top-flight newcomers Burnley have made 1,500 season tickets available in the David Fishwick Stand, formerly known as the Cricket Field Stand, drastically cutting away allocations.
Manager Owen Coyle said: "I have pressed long and hard for the club to release 1500 more season tickets to ensure that the David Fishwick Stand is not taken up by 4,000 away supporters.
"I am absolutely delighted with this news. Last season the Clarets supporters truly were our 12th man at Turf Moor and their backing helped us to reach the Barclays Premier League.
"I am sure the extra 1500 season tickets, plus the 15,000 we have already sold, can only help us to stay there."
The Clarets have made a third summer signing, securing defender David Edgar on a four-year deal after his Newcastle contract expired.
Because Edgar – who made seven starts last season – is 22, Burnley must try to agree a fee with Newcastle.
The Canadian international – who made 23 appearances for United, scoring twice – will miss Burnley's opener away to Stoke City, having been sent off at Villa Park on the final day of last season as Newcastle succumbed to relegation.
Meanwhile, Hamilton have confirmed Burnley's interest in highly-rated teenage midfielder James McCarthy.
