CITY of Sunderland swimmer Danielle Huskisson claimed a silver medal in the British University and College Sports Championships held in Sheffield.
The 18-year-old powered her way to silver in the Women’s 800m Freestyle with a fantastic swim in 8.37.63.
Jonathan Carlisle (19) broke two Northumberland and Durham Senior records in the men’s 100m and 200m backstroke stopping the clock in new lifetime bests of 55.30 and 1:59.23 – to finish in fourth place overall.
Daniel Heeley (21) achieved season-best times in the 50m and 100m freestyle to finish in 17th and 18th places.
Carlisle and Heeley then teamed up with Tom Crozier and Derwentside’s Joshua Crowther to take eighth place in the 200m team medley and tenth in the 200m freestyle team event.
City of Sunderland swimmers concluded the Northumberland and Durham Autumn Graded Series at Stanley with some impressive performances.
In the 100m individual medley event, the boys claimed a golden hat-trick with titles for Callum Dann (11) in 1.26.33, William Robinson (12) in 1.22.29 and Callum Reveley (13) in 1.17.91.
Robinson also won the 200m freestyle gold (2.32.33), the 100m backstroke silver and 100m breaststroke bronze. Dann took the 200m breaststroke gold (1.39.76), while Reveley claimed the 100m backstroke gold (1.14.52), the 400m individual medley silver and the 100m breaststroke bronze.
Ten-year-old Ben Hutchinson topped the podium in the 200m individual medley in 3.11.66 and followed this up with a silver medal in the 50m backstroke, while Jack Tallentire (14) won the 400m individual medley gold (5.23.58) and the 100m individual medley silver.
For the girls, Lida Abrie took the 14-year-old titles in the 400m individual medley (5.31.39) and 100m freestyle (1.04.54), while 10-year-old Natalya Sharp won the 200m individual medley gold, touching home in 3.03.60.
Fellow 10-year-old Ana Maria Lazar was a double gold medal winner with victories in the 50m breaststroke (47.50) and the 200m freestyle (2.46.15), while 13-year-olds Georgina Lamb and Leah Hutchinson also struck gold with respective victories in the 100m butterfly (1.15.59) and 200m breaststroke (3.15.87).
Lamb followed this up with silver in the 400m individual medley, while Hutchinson won the 100m breaststroke bronze.
Silver medallists for Sunderland were Jennifer Sharp (12) in the 100m and 200m backstroke, Morgan Donaldson (13) in the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle and Callum Walker (13) in the 100m breaststroke.
Bronze medal winners were Joseph Robbins (10) in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley and Gabrielle Burdess (13) in the 100m butterfly.
H Sunderland swimmers Lucy Walton and Lucy Ellis have been selected to attend the annual British Swimming Open Water Development Camp at Stirling.
The 14-year-olds join the select group of 22 swimmers because of their successes in 800m and 1500m pool competitions and their performances at the Open Water National Championships.
City of Sunderland Coach Danny Thompson has also been selected to join the coaching staff on the course.
