DURHAM Cricket Board Under-15s overcame Cumbria by 15 runs in a close-fought ECB County Cup game at Keswick.
The rain reduced the game to 44 overs a side, with Cumbria winning the toss and electing to bowl.
That proved to be a good decision as both Durham’s opening batsmen were quickly dismissed. Jake Louth, coming in three. got Durham back on their feet, hitting 31 runs, backed by 30 from Scott Steel. Down the order, Dominic Scott added 31 and Jamie Daas 29., but Durham were bowled out for just 169 in 42.4 overs.
James McGown bagged 3-23, while James Thompson picked up 3-21.
Cumbria’s first wicket fell on 30 when Josh O’Brien caught Chris McBride for 18. Although both Marcus Stables and Greg Cameron scored 27, Cumbria fell 16 runs short of victory and were dismissed for 154 in 42.5 overs.
Steel was the pick of the bowlers for Durham, bagging 4-31, along with 3-21 from Matthew Potts. Scott (2) and Liam Burgess also struck.
