PHILADELPHIA have pulled off a major coup by persuading the former England captain Andrew Strauss and the ex-New Zealand player Jeremy Coney to be guest speakers at their annual dinner at the Chilton Country Hotel on Friday, August 9 – the first day of the England v Australia Test Match at Chester-le-Street.
A delighted Phili chairman Malcolm Pratt said: “Coney, who now works for Sky as a cricket pundit, is one of the best after dinner speakers available at present but to also get Strauss on board is a tremendous bonus.
“Michael Roseberry, the former Durham captain and Middlesex player, played a big part in getting him to come and I am very grateful to him. It promises to be a night to remember, especially as it’s on the evening of the first ever Aussie Test Match at the Riverside.
“Since we first lined up the pair, we’ve sold 165 tickets in a little over a week and all the indications are that the event will be a sell-out.”
Tickets for the dinner, which will also feature BBC Look North presenter Jeff Brown, are available at a cost of £35 each or £350 for a table of 10.
