Durham City held off a determined Eppleton team to win the Durham Cricket Board Under-13s Central Division Cup final at Washington.
City won the toss and elected to bat, with their first three batsmen – James Hindmarsh, Robbie Fyfe and man of the match Jonny Bushnell – all retiring on 30, backed by 20 from Tom Hetherington, as they made 144-3 in their 20 overs.
Jake Pratt, Ryan Wardle and Callum Smiles all struck for Eppleton.
The Church Road side started well in the run chase, scoring 60 before the first wicket fell when Pratt was our for 21. Layla Tipton and Smiles both top-scored on 30, before retiring, but Eppleton could not get over the line, finishing 25 runs short of their target on 120-5.
Adam Crawford picked up 3-16 for City, while Gabriel McCall and James Hindemarsh both bagged one apiece.
Washington secured an 84-run league victory over Philadelphia in the Under-15s Central Division.
Jovan Singh retired unbeaten on 52 and Ajay Singh Rai retired on 50 not out as Washington made 169-3, backed by 20 from Jordan Potter.
Craig Galley, Jack Ribchester and Jonathan Lavery took the three wickets to fall.
In reply, Phili found it tough going and they ended up well short on 85-9, with Sam Ingamells outstanding in a fine knock of 35. Ajay Singh Rai was all but unplayable, grabbing 4-6 in four overs, with three maidens.
