Durham Under-15s beat Northumberland by 24 runs in their ECB County Cup opener at Burnopfield.
Durham, put into bat, made 218 all out in 49.5 overs.
Northumberland struck early when Adam Khan was caught for six, followed by Sol Bell (11), but Patrick Cooper (24) and Jonathan Bushnell (21) steadied the ship.
Jonathan Pears put Durham back on track with 56 from 77 balls, with support from Matthew Brown (19), Sam North (16) and Matthew Adamson (16).
Rory Hanley was the pick of Northumberland’s bowlers, taking 4-38.
In reply, Durham grabbed two quick wickets. Skipper Moshin Mukthar stuck around, finishing on 120 not out, but he could not get Northumberland over the line, falling 24 runs short.
Josh Clifford and Aaron Feroz both took two wickets, with Adamson, Matthew Oswell, North and Bell also striking.
