Five-star Wheatman steers Harbour home

OLIVER Wheatman (5-12) was the star turn as Seaham Harbour squeezed home by 10 runs against Easington in the DCB U18 Junior League’s South East Division.

Harbour made 76-9 in their 20 overs, with Easington falling just short on 66-8.

J. Robinson’s 35 steered Seaham Park to 88-7 in their 20 overs, but Castle Eden wrapped up the win on 91-3 with two overs to spare, with Thomas Gorham hitting a sparkling, unbeaten 46.

Ryhope bowled Peterlee out for 47, with L. Stores grabbing 4-12, before easing home by nine wickets on 49-1 in 6.2 overs.

In the Central Division, Sacriston just edged a thrilling, high-scoring win over Durham City.

City made a daunting 147-6 as Mark Davison (62, with three sixes and eight fours), Piers Davison (25) and Scott Steel top-scored, Thomas Jones snatching 3-42.

Sacriston, though, rattled off the required runs in 15.1 overs, without the loss of a wicket, as Daniel Anderson (77no, with five sixes and seven fours) and Jack Hardy (55no, with two sixes and seven fours).

Whitburn struggled to 35-9 in their 20 overs as they succumbed to derby defeat to Marsden in the North East Division.

L. Mann was outstanding with the ball, grabbing five wickets for just four runs in in his four overs, backed by two from M. Elliott.

Marsden had a couple of scares, but they eased home on 39-4 in 7.5 overs, with Luke Smith bagging 2-9.
