SOUTH Northumberland were crowned Under-11s North East Premier League Cup champions with finals day success over host club Eppleton and South Shields.
Eppleton won through to the final by beating Shields in the first match at their Church Road ground.
Eppleton posted 130, with Kristian Jefferson (29 not out) and Callum Smiles (21) top-scoring, before Shields struggled to 86-5, with Adam May’s 17 their best knock.
Eppleton’s Josh Hutchinson bagged two wickets, while Simpson (5-34) and May (2-20) shone with the ball for Shields.
South North sealed their final place by beating Shields in the second match. The Newcastle side rattled up 96-3, as Jonny Bell (20) and Phil Brantlington (11) led the way. May was Shields’ top runmaker in their reply, which fell short on 44-7.
In the final, Eppleton put South North into bat, and the Tynesiders made an impressive 130-2 in 20 overs, with Ragbia (25no), Jonny Bell (24) and Fletcher (17) the pick of the batsmen. Callum Smiles picked up a wicket, with Kristian Jefferson running Ward out.
Eppleton never managed the required rate and ended on 60-8, with Jefferson again batting well to top-score on 22 not out.
With good bowling from South North, Eppleton only got half of what South North got and ended up on 60-8.
Umpires Fred Godson and John Crockatt elected Jonny Bell as player of the day.
