DURHAM have rung the changes ahead for Bank Holiday Monday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 clash at home to Hampshire Royals.

Opener Mark Stoneman is handed the captaincy as a number of key players, including one-day and T20 skipper Dale Benkenstein, are rested for their forthcoming four-day encounter.

Also out are four-day skipper Paul Collingwood, and seamers Graham Onions and Chris Rushworth.

The quartet are being rested by the Dynamos ahead of the County Championship match against Lancashire which starts on Tuesday at Liverpool CC.

Academy players Paul Coughlin and Ryan Pringle are included in a 13-man squad, which also includes bowler Mark Wood, who was left out this week’s championship win, and South Shields-born Gordon Muchall.

Despite missing Monday’s game veteran Collingwood hopes the squad chosen can keep up the momentum, which has seen them win four championship games on the bounce.

“We’ve got some good momentum now,” Collingwood said. “The more wins you get, the more confidence comes into the side and the better you play. Hopefully that can continue.

“We have always said that winning is a habit, and we want to keep that going for as long as we can.”

Collingwood feels the team are growing with each passing success, but says they must continue to keep doing things in the right way.

“We’re certainly doing a lot of basics a lot better than we were, but the guys are gaining confidence all the time,” he said.

“I think the guys are understanding their roles, as well, which is quite crucial.”

Durham are third from bottom in the Group A table after 11 games.

The Dynamos have won five games, lost five and had one no result, which has seen them pick up 11 points.

They will certainly have their work cut out at the Emirates ICG on Monday, as Hampshire sit top of the group having won seven of their 11 matches so far.

The Royals have drawn three games and are four points ahead of Geoff Cook’s men in the table.
