DURHAM go in search of their first LV County Championship win at the eighth time of asking this weekend when Lancashire travel over to the North East.
The County champions have the benefit of home advantage at the ICG Emirates Durham but so far have notched only a succession of draws on home turf in games against Somerset, Yorkshire and Middlesex.
Luck has not been on Durham’s side in their four-day games this season, with Paul Collingwood’s men several times getting themselves in good positions only to be frustrated by the weather or stubborn resistance.
But they have a good chance of progressing in the game which gets underway on Sunday, with Lancashire themselves having a stuttering season so far too.
The Red Rose county are only one place above second-bottom Durham in the County Championship table having recorded just one win of their own.
Durham will still be without opening bowler Graham Onions, who has yet to recover from a back injury, while James Harrison is ruled out with a knee injury.
But Sunderland-born Paul Coughlin is named in the squad after some eye-catching displays from the batsman-bowler for the Second XI.
Last season Durham turned a poor start to the season around in dramatic fashion to win the County Championship.
And going into this weekend after two defeats in the Natwest T20 Blast, they could do with the boost of a successful four-day game as the season approaches its half-way point.
Newly-promoted Lancashire are just two points and of Durham following their draw with Warwickshire earlier in the week - a game in which Steven Croft hit an unbeaten century.
Lancashire’s new overseas signing Usman Khawaja could make his debut for Lancashire at the Emirates on Sunday.
Tickets are available priced £15 for adults, £5 for juniors.
Durham squad: Mark Stoneman, Keaton Jennings, Scott Borthwick, Michael Richardson, Ben Stokes, Paul Collingwood, Gordon Muchall, Phil Mustard, John Hastings, Mark Wood, Chris Rushworth, Paul Coughlin, Gavin Main.
