DURHAM’S players have been celebrating winning the LV County championship this afternoon.
Graham Onions, the leading wicket-taker with 67, said: “It’s a dream. It’s an honour to wear this county cap.
“A lot of people counted us out at the start of the season and half way through they said, can we carry on winning games. But of course we can. We’ve got a strong unit and hats off to all the boys.”
Wearsider Chris Rushworth has had a superb year, weighing in with 54 wickets.
Holding his baby, he said: “It’s the proudest moment of my life, except for the little one. A local boy playing in a Championship-winning team is the best feeling a boy can get.”
Ben Stokes added: “I’m absolutely buzzing. To be part of such a successful team and to be stood here lifting the trophy in front of a home crowd is a very special moment.”
