DURHAM Under-14s endured disappointment with defeats in their two ECB U14 County Cup Group A ties this week.
The youngsters went down by 38 runs to Derbyshire before losing by four wickets to Cheshire.
Derbyshire posted a daunting 232-4 after being put in by Durham, for whom Scott Steel was the pick of the bowlers with 2-37.
Steel was the stand-out performer with the bat, too, hitting a magnificent 81 off 89 balls to rescue Durham, after they slipped to 32-5. Steel and Nathan Bushnell (49 off 66 balls) helped Durham to 194 all out with a stirring partnership of 115.
In the second match, Cheshire inserted Durham, who made 172 all out, with Jake Louth (31), Edward Hurst (28) and Matthew Potts (24) the top runmakers.
Cheshire edged home on 175-6, despite two wickets from Jamie Daas. Louth, Liam Burgess and Daniel Stephenson also struck.
Durham U12s went down by one wicket to Durham School in their friendly.
The County totalled 154-5, inspired by Finn Hebron (41) and Keanan Proctor (37), with Sol Bell taking 3-32.
Robbie Fife (35) led the School home, despite three wickets from Daniel Hutton and two by Matthew Oswell.
