Durham County Under-14s slumped to a 104-run defeat to Lancashire in the ECB County Cup at Sedgefield.
Dominic Morris’s 68 led Lancashire to a daunting 207-5 in their 45 overs, with Laurence Wood grabbing three wickets for just 26 runs in a superb spell of bowling. Matthew Proctor and Connor Whitelock also got among the wickets.
Durham found it tough going in their reply, though, with Josh Coughlin’s 38 the highlight as they totalled 103 all out. John Oswell (15), Proctor (13) and opener Luke Henderson (11) offered the best support.
Last week, the U14s (151-7) defeated Cleveland (119) by 32 runs. Henderson (44) and Coughlin (43) top-scored, backed by Aron McCabe (20) and Oswell (18). Luke Smith starred with the ball for Durham, snatching 4-16, with Whitelock and Paul Woolston each striking twice.
The U14s are back in action on Thursday, with a friendly against North Yorkshire at Scarborough.
Durham U15s are away to Scotland tomorrow, while the U13s host Lancashire at Whitburn on Thursday (11.30am).
