Cestrians lift T20 Cup

CHESTER-le-Street yesterday won the Premier League’s Co-operative Funeralcare T20 Cup, convincingly beating Stockton in the final.

Simon Birtwistle (41) and Andrew Smith (37) steered the Ropery Lane men to 153-6 before Andrew Bell’s haul of 3-10 helped dismiss Stockton for 96.

Earlier, Sunderland (133-6) fell by one run to Stockton, despite Mark Dale’s gallant, unbeaten 42 and 37 from Daniel Shurben. Greg Davison and Daniel Sanderson both grabbed three wickets when Stockton made 134-7.
