DIVISION Two will welcome one new team next season, with Burnopfield’s application having been accepted at a recent Readers Durham Cricket League meeting.
The north Durham club, currently in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League (NTSL), will go into Division Two and replace Shildon Railway who are joining the NYSD League.
Burnopfield skipper Adam Tinnion explained the rationale behind the club’s move, saying: “This has been under consideration since the move to our new facilities was given the go-ahead over a year ago.
“The club has a long-term aim to play Premier League cricket and, with the NTSL not being in the pyramid system, then the only way to progress our aims was to join the DCL Second Division and then work our way up.
“A vacancy was advertised and so we applied. Our time in the NTSL has been very enjoyable, but, to further our ambitions, we now look forward to whatever the new challenges may bring.”
