Chasing pair maintain heat on leaders

THE race for the Sunderland title is hotting up, with chasing pair Grindon and Plains Farm refusing to let leaders Town End Farm get away.

Grindon recorded an 8-0 home win over Steels to close the gap at the top to five points.

Plains Farm were also 8-0 winners over Silksworth Comrades to maintain a winning streak that stretches back to November.

Town End Farm won 6-2 away to St Leonards to stay ahead.

Grangetown went down 6-2 away to Farringdon, while Mitchells moved off the bottom of the table with a fine 6-2 away win at Hetton.

In the quarter-finals of the pairs competition, M.Laydon and M.Campbell (Plains Farm) won 13-12 against A.Howe and G.Gibson.

The game went to the last end with the Town End Farm pair needing three shots to force an extra end, but could only manage two.

In triples quarter-finals, W.McMann, K.Huntley and G.GIbson (TEF) won 13-7 against St Leonards’ C.Thompson/C.Young and S.Thompson.
