MOTOCROSS rider Carlton Husband’s blossoming career on the track is accelerating after he claimed a national title.
Shiney Row’s Husband has prevailed in his bid to lift the Red Bull Pro Nationals title in the Expert Two-stroke 125cc category after a nail-biting conclusion to the championships.
The 20-year-old was neck-and-neck with Portsmouth’s Lewis King going into the final leg of the seven-stage championship at Culham Park, in Oxfordshire.
But Husband edged out his rival to land the title after winning four of the stages.
Husband said: “I was tied on points going into the last round in Culham.
“It’s been really tough, but I’ve come out on top and I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy in my whole life.
“I knew I had to be consistent and not make mistakes to win the championship.”
Husband, who also boxes for Houghton and District Boxing club, has been backed by local firms who sponsor his efforts.
And those demands on his time are considerable, with the engineer racing two or three times every week.
“I’ve been doing this since I was about 11,” he added.
“It’s taken me to Ireland, Belgium and all over the UK, but I have to practise in either Blyth or Doncaster.”
