The Wearsider showed his determination and class to win all three rounds in a cracking bout to win a unanimous decision.

He now heads back to Liverpool this Saturday to take on the talented Connor Fanning (Hall Green, Birmingham) in the semi-finals.

Boxing is scheduled to start at 12.30pm.

North Star Boxing Club’s Ryan Daley put in a fine display to beat Yorkshire champion Jacob Staten (Hunslet Boxing Club) in the pre-quarters of the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs Championship.

Ryan dominated the bout in the Class D under 56kg division. He was then given a walkover in the quarters and will next box Shabaz Mahoad (Wellington) on Saturday.

Drew Davidson had walkovers to the quarter-finals in the Class B Under 75kg section.

He was due to fight at the weekend but Lewis Parry (Jimmy Egans Boxing Academy, Manchester) pulled out on the day – so Davidson now fights Joshua Hamilton (West Warks) in his semi-final.

Drew also boxed on Saturday in his first representative bout for England.

He lost the bout but possibly tried too hard to impress – but he will learn from that and know what is expected of him next time.
