Young boxer Joseph Miller is celebrating after winning a gold medal at the Monkstown International Box Cup in Dublin.
The 12-year-old was victorious in the 32kg weight category, winning the final by a unanimous points decision over Michael O’Reilly from Ireland.
The boxer, from the Olympian Club in Ryhope – owned by pro promoter Phil Jeffries – boxed three times in as many days,
The tournament is the biggest of its kind in Europe, which invites boxers from all over, and this year saw 12 different countries attend.
In total, around 1,000 boxers competed over the three days from Friday to Monday last weekend.
Joe attends St Aidan’s School, in Sunderland, and is in Year 7.

The Olympian gym is open to all young kids to learn to box 5.30pm-6.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays every week.
