ENGLAND senior champion Josh Kelly will lead a roll call of talent from the region when top quality amateur boxing returns to the Rainton Meadows Arena tonight.
Kelly, of Barnes in Sunderland, who boxes out of Houghton and District Boxing Club, will be among the fighters taking part in the Tyne Tees and Wear Elite ABAE Championships.
It will be the first championship competition to be held in the region where headguards will not be worn since the adoption of the new AIBA rules.
Doors open at 7pm, with the boxing getting underway from 8pm.
Entry is £15, but under-12s will be allowed in for £5.
Great Britain boxers Pat McCormack, lightweight (60kg) of Birtley ABC and Warren Baister, heavyweight, (91kg) of Sunderland ABC have been seeded to the national quarter-finals.
The quarters, semis and finals will be held over three consecutive days of competition at the 5,000 seater, Echo Arena in Liverpool and will be televised on Sky Sports 2 from 8pm-10pm on Friday, May 2.
