SUNDERLAND Amateur Boxing Club are gearing up for their first fight show of the new season, at the Barnes Hotel tomorrow night.

Some of the most promising young boxers in the area will be put through their paces in the function room above the pub, with up to 10 bouts, junior and senior, scheduled.

Among the Sunderland ABC boxers taking part are Travis Waters, Carlo Geraldi, Steve Patterson, Connor McCulloch and Wallace McLeod, fighting boxers drawn from across the North East as well as from Harrogate in Yorkshire.

Among the big local fights will be Lambton Street’s Bobby Begg and Jake Cliff taking on Sunderland ABC’s Luke Radcliffe and Joel Hassan respectively.

Tickets for the open show are £12 and fight fans are welcome to pay on the door, with the event set to begin at 7pm.

Former professional heavyweight Gavin McGhin, himself an ex-Sunderland ABC and England international boxer, is hoping the show will be well supported.

He said: “It’s a great chance for anyone in the city who loves their boxing to see a live show and really promising young boxers giving it their all.

“The first show of the season is always a popular and enjoyable one and everyone at the club is looking forward to it.”
