DAVID Bolt, fresh from steering his Silksworth rink to National glory last summer, has earned an England recall for the Home International series at Hamilton in Scotland next month.
Bolt has been handed a skip’s role for the first time and will have Northumberland’s Chris Yeomans as third.
Both players will attend a squad day at Leamington Spa on May 31 before competing in the series on June 27-28.
Bolt and Gary Smith suffered disappointment in the final PlanetBowls indoors event – after both players made the long trip to West Sussex last weekend in search of ranking points in an attempt to secure an invite into the Grand Finals event in October.
Sadly, both players went out in the first round, although they did collect some points after recording preliminary round wins.
Bolt defeated Falaise’s Trevor Roberts 6-1, 1-11, 2-0 before losing out narrowly to Barking’s Mark Nullmeyers 5-5, 6-4, while Smith saw off Worthing Pavilion’s Neil Kerkhove 7-0, 4-7, 2-0 before going down 6-5, 5-4 to Wey Valley’s Jon Wilson.
The Co-operative Funeral Care UK Masters event takes place at Blackpool this weekend, with the two winners claiming a Tour card entry into all the World Bowls Tour events next season.
Local hope Gary Smith is attempting to replicate his 2013 success and grab one of the Tour cards. Smith will need to win three games to do so.
In his first match, he faces a tough task against Torquay’s former England internationalist, Danny Denison.
Talented Darlington youngster Noah Cummings has been selected by England for the British Isles Under-18s International series in October, at a venue to be confirmed.
Cummings has been given the singles berth and will skip Spalding’s Ruby Hill in the pairs.
Cumbria are the new Denny Cup champions after a 75-63 win over Torquay in the final at Darlington.
In the semi-final, Cumbria defeated City of Ely by 10 shots despite only having one rink up.
The Ladies’ Yetton Trophy title went to Egham, who beat Desborough 82-71 in the final.
