STEVE Baker raced to victory in the Houghton Feast Trophy Race.
The race was one hour plus two laps, and the riders got off to a very fast start.
After about two laps, the field split into two groups.
The gap widened each lap and after about 40 minutes, the first group lapped the second.
With one lap to go, Baker (Achieve Skinnergate Cycling) created a gap and left the main group, to storm to victory.
The rest of the group sprinted for the line and three Houghton CC riders – brothers Chris and Richie Ranson, and Andy Brennan – came in with the group.
Baker was presented with a cheque and the Houghton Feast Trophy, by Bob Smith, President of Houghton Cycling Club.
Ralph Hodgson (Marton Racing Team), a category A rider (under 16), rode in the lead group and gained the first prime – managing fifth place in the senior event.
He also won the under 16 junior event.
Two NEYL races were also held, for 8-12-year-olds, and 12-15 year-olds.
H Paul Whitehill, of Houghton CC, finished sixth out of a field of 25 in the Super Saturday Cyclco X series at Gallagher Park, Bedlington.
He raced again on Sunday in the CXNE Rat Race Series at Gateshead and came 29th out of 74 riders. In the vet event, Paul Robson came in 43rd.
The other Houghton CC rider in this event was Matt Webb, riding the Under 23 event and he came in 17th out of a field of 40 riders.
Mark Harrison (Houghton CC) rode the Cleveland Wheelers Hill Climb on Clay Bank and finished sixth out of a field of 60 in a time of six minutes and 27 seconds.
The overall winner was Rob Carter (Velo 29) with a time of five minutes 50 seconds.
The next event Houghton CC will promote is a CycloX event at Hetton Lyons Country Park on November 2.
