Baker sees off Poulte to progress

THE County championships have entered the second stage.

In the triples, Silksworth’s Paul Baker moved into the last eight with a 17-16 win over Usworth’s Brian Poulte. He will play the winner of Leeholme’s Barry Attwood and Hunden’s Stuart Clarke tie on Monday, July 7, July at Barnes Park.

In the Two Bowl, Silksworth’s Neal Ridley went down 15-7 to Dunston’s Malcolm Johnson.

In the Junior Singles, Hetton’s Sam Patterson went down 21-9 at Leeholme, while Herrington’s David Ridley went down 21-4 at Darlington RA.

In the Ladies County competitions, Houghton Dairy Lane still harbour hopes of county titles in the singles and pairs.

Susan Foster and Joan Rodgerson won a quarter-final extra end thriller 23-22 against Consett’s Gill Jones to set up a semi-final against Mrs Helm (Shildon) on Tuesday at Horden (10am).

In the singles, Glynis Morgan’s run of cracking results continued with a 21-3 win over Owton Lodge’s M.Taylo.r which now sets up a semi-final against Lyndhurst’s Sandra Hind on Thursday at Horden (10am).
