Athletics: Wilson and Porter boost Durham
TwoSunderland athletes helped Durham win the Inter Counties Schools' cross-country match at Meadowfield on Saturday.
County schools champions Michael Wilson (St Aidan's) and Charmaine Porter (Thornhill) won their events against North Yorkshire, Cleveland and Northumberland runners.
Wilson triumphed in the junior boys, winning by six seconds from his South Tyneside teammate Luke Clark. Porter, alsothe North East under-15 champion, again got the better of Zoe Hewiston, this time by 20 seconds in the intermediates race.
This was the final race before selection for the county team to contest the English Schools' championships at Manchester on Saturday March 20.
