Sunderland Stroller Alyson Dixon shattered her personal best in the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k road race yesterday.

The international marathon runner chopped 12 seconds off her previous fastest time, set in the Trafford 10k in Manchester in March, with her startling winning performance of 32min 17sec.

Just back from six weeks training in Font Romeu, in the French Pyrenees, she used the benefits of the altitude to finish seventh overall with some good male clubmen behind her.

She was well clear of the second woman, Elswick Harrier Justina Heslop, who recorded 33.56 for 17th overall. Durham City Harrier Rosie Smith was two places behind in third (34.10).

Dixon now targets the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, September 27 in her bid for Olympic selection for Rio next year.

The race winner was Elswick’s Tadele Geremew (30.36) from fellow Ethiopian WondIye Indelbu (30.39). New Marske Harrier Dominic Shaw was third (31.05).

Other Strollers were Craig Harriman in 82nd (37.39), while Mike Hobson clocked 38.07, Declan Munnelly 39.11, Mark Ralph 43.22, Lesley Watson was third over-50 in 46.09 and Vanessa Hogen finished in 45.44.

Sunderland Harriers had Micky Thompson as first over-45 in 22nd (34.19), while Paul Blakey was fourth over-40 (34.39), Steve McMahon was 30th (34.57), Jess Fox was 15th woman (41.15), Shaun Bagley stopped the clock on 45.43, Gary Fox recorded 46.55 and Dean Phillips claimed the same time.
