Strollers make impact at Hartlepool Marina

SUNDERLAND Strollers had six men inside the first 30 finishers in yesterday’s Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers’ Marina five-mile road race.

The race was won by Ethiopian Paralympic 1500m bronze medallist Wondiye Fikre Indelbu (24.45).

The Ashbrooke-based Strollers (with some runners pictured at the start, above) used the race as part of their club championship grand prix and they were rewarded with a good turnout.

Michael Edwards was first home in 11th (28.26), followed by Steve McMahon 13th (28.28), Michael Laws 16th (28.33), Andrew Powell 18th (28.40), Tim Allsop 21st (28.49) and third over-45 Simon Mowbray, who finished 29th (29.45).

They also had Craig Harriman 49th (30.57), Ritchie Gerry 53rd (31.10), Declan Munnelly 59th (31.33), Luke McCormack 64th (31.49), James Johnson 68th (31.59), Andy Duke 75th (32.22), Kevin O’Neil 79th (32.27) and Brian Cairns 97th (33.04) making the top 100 in the field with 501 finishers.

Strollers’ women were led by Ashleigh Ewen in 117th (33.42), Jenna Maynard was 140th (34.34), Joy Champion 153rd (35.03) for second over-45 and Rachel Ball 171st (35.56).
