DUTCHMAN Cees Van Der Land made his North East debut a winning one in the Tynedale Harriers Jelly Tea 10 mile road race from Hexham yesterday.
The Tyne Bridge Harrier recorded 56 minutes exactly to beat 50-year-old Durham City Harrier Ian Crampton by 15 seconds.
Gateshead’s Conrad Franks was third (56.25).
Sunderland Harrier Paul Redman was second over-50 in 20th (60.47).
Sunderland Stroller Kevin Blyth was fourth over-55 in 41st (65.03). His clubmate, Aidan Crowe, was 80th (69.35).
Seaham’s Louise Rodgers was an easy winner of the women’s race. The 40-year-old clocked 66.13 to beat Claremont’s Heather Steel (68.56) by over two minutes.
H Paralympian Wondy Indeldu continued his winning ways on Teesside with victory (31.00) in yesterday’s Tees Pride 10k Road Race. Former Sunderland Harrier Kevin Calvert (Morpeth) was fifth (32.43). Sunderland Stroller Steve McMahon was 52nd (36.51).
Mandale’s Jo Stone won the women’s race (35.41) and Sunderland Harrier 16-year-old, Jessica Fox, was 27th woman (43.38).
H Sunderland Harrier Michael Barker, in fourth (17.16), and Sunderland Stroller Steve Rankin fifth (17.25), were the leading local finishers in the Watergate multi-terrain 5k at Gateshead.
The race was won by Tyne Bridge Harrier Mark Fenwick (15.58).
Sunderland Harriers’ Paul Merrison (17.55) and Peter Richardson (19.46) won their respective over-55 and over-60 age categories.
Natalie Batey (Tyne & Wear Fire B) won the women’s race (19.58) from new Sunderland Harrier Nicola Woodward (20.08).
Stroller Jenna Maynard was third (20.28). Clubmate Lyne Valentine was first over-55 (21.26).
