SUNDERLAND Stroller Alyson Dixon racked up her sixth 10k road race win a row in yesterday’s quality Ribble Valley 10k in Clitheroe, Lancashire.
Facing strong winds, hail and rain, runners were slowed by the conditions with the race winner failing to beat the 30-minute benchmark.
Dixon, finishing 72nd overall, was well outside her PB of 32.53, clocking 34.04 to also win the Northern Championship, which was held in conjunction with the race.
In a close race for the medals, 17 seconds covered the first three finishers with Horwich’s Katie Hewitson second in 34.17 and Felicity Abram (Abbey Runners) third in 34.21. Shildon’s Kate Avery was fourth (35.01).
Bristol’s David Bishop won in 30.03 from Matt Bowser (Lincoln Wellington) 30.06 and North East Cross Country champion Andy Wiles (New Marske) in third (30.10).
Durham City Harrier Dan Garbutt was tenth (30.31) and Sunderland’s Jack Martin (Stockport Harriers) 11th (30.33).
H A course inspection will take place today to see if Sunday’s Old Monk’s race at Hart Village can go ahead.
There has been a landslide in the dene.
Promoters Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers are concerned that the rain could make this area more vulnerable. In the event of cancellation, details will be posted on Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers’ website.
