CRAIG ISHERWOOD chopped nearly six minutes off his previous best to finish fifth in yesterday’s Redcar Half Marathon with 1,271 finishers.
The Sunderland Harrier clocked 1.15.44 to beat his previous best of 1.21.51 set in the Alnwick Half Marathon in June.
He ran the race alongside clubmate Steve Potts before he pulled away to finish fourth in 1.15.17 behind race winner James Bulman (1.11.59), runner-up Shaun O’Grady (1.14.51), both of New Marske, and Jarrow and Hebburn’s Andy Burn in third (1.15.08).
The race also included the North East Championship and Potts won the bronze medal as O’Grady was not entered for the championship.
Sunderland Harriers finished second team to New Marske with Sean Smith the club’s third counter in 37th (1.23.47). The other Harriers’ were Steve Gordon 43rd (1.24.56), Alan Knebel 113th (1.30.45), Peter Richardson second over-60 in 1.33.56 and David White third over-60 in 1.39.20. Sunderland Stroller Tim Allsop was 18th (1.20.30) and over-50 Kevin Blyth 53rd (1.25.43). Chester-le Street’s Ian Bloomfield was first over-55 in 1.21.13.
Durham City Harrier Aiveen Fox won the women’s race in an overall 55th (1.26.04) from Sunderland Harrier Michelle Avery, formerly Holt, who took second in 65th (1.27.03). Sunderland Stroller Vicki Booth clocked (1.38.11) and Harrier Caroline Fleetwood (1.48.57).
Other Strollers times were: 63rd Kevin O’Neil 1.27.00, 67th William Bowman 1.27.25, Steve McMahon 1.28.37, Gary Ritchie 1.30.47, Aidan Crowe 1.33.44, Harry Harrison 1.33.48, Bill Kirk 1.35.13, Marc Richardson 1.38.59, David Groark 1.39.08, Phil Watson 1.40.24, Michael Dixon 1.42.55, Martin Welsh 1.44.53, Stephen Kiszow1.45.07.
