SUNDERLAND Harriers’ veterans repeated their second position of last year in the over-50 veterans’ men’s four-stage race in the North East Road Relay Championships.
After Paul Redman finished second on the first stage with his 12.41 stint, Rob Rush took the Wearsiders into the lead with his 13.19 circuit.
On leg three, international veteran Guy Bracken stole the honours, shattering Sunderland Harrier Brian Rushworth’s course record (11.49) with his terrific run of 11.26, to take North Shields into the lead.
Paul Merrision, an over-55, was Sunderland’s third-leg runner and he clocked 12.39 before handing over to Paul Collins, who recorded 12.48 to finish 52 seconds behind North Shields and more than two minutes ahead of third club Billingham Marsh House Harriers.
Sunderland Strollers B were fourth with Ken Maynard (13.21), Kevin Blyth (14.34), Mick Armstrong (15.31) and Gavin Sword (13.23).
