SUNDERLAND Harrier Noel Hitchcock chopped nearly 90 seconds off his personal best with an outstanding performance over the 10k distance yesterday.
Competing in the Newton Aycliffe 10k, which is regarded as one of the fastest courses in the North East, Hitchcock (pictured) finished seventh in a field of 350 runners.
He clocked 35min 31sec to smash his PB of 36.57, set in the Carlisle Tri 10k in 2012.
Sunderland Strollers’ veteran Tim Allsop was 19th (37.05) and clubmate Carl Smith ended 55th (41.11). Houghton Harrier Shaun McGrath finished 52nd (40.49).
The race winner was Ethiopian paralympian Wondiye Fikre Indelbu in 30.51, beating Andy Wiles into second (31.23). James Bulman, an over-40 (New Marske), finished third (32.47) and Durham City Harriers’ two-times winner, James Askew, was fourth (34.15).
The women’s winner was Dawn Richardson of Quakers Running Club in 40.43.
