STEVEN DUFFY was the first Wearsider to finish in the Brampton to Carlisle ten-mile road race.
The 26-year-old Sunderland Harrier, making his debut over the distance, finished 16th, clocking 56.45 in a field of nearly 600.
The race winner was Andy Wiles of New Marske, who recorded 50.50, beating Tom Charles of Trafford by nine seconds. Jarrow and Hebburn’s improving Andy Burn finished third (51.45).
The women’s winner was Joanna Zakrzewski of Dumfries, who finished 18th overall in 57.00 minutes exactly. Holly Russ of Teambath was second (57.34) and Jarrow and Hebburn’s Alex Snook was third (60.02).
Sunderland Harrier Rachel Moore was 12th over-40 in 70.33 and Helen Higgins finished 15th over-35 (78.52).
Sunderland Strollers had Robert Morris in 206th (70.33) Michael Ohlson, an over-50, 327th (78.28) and Stephen Allen 366th (79.58) for 32nd team.
H Thirteen men beat the 30 minute barrier in the quality Abbey Dash 10k road race at Leeds.
North York Moors Matty Hines won the race (29.23) in a sprint finish with Tipton’s John Lilly (29.25) and Scotsman Callum Hawkins (29.26).
Former Durham City Harrier Michael Crawley was 16th (30.07) and Morpeth’s Nick Swinburn was 24th (30.26). Durham’s Dan Jenkin finished 74th (31.51).
Sunderland Harrier Kevin Calvert took 110th (32.54) and veteran Graham Lancaster finished 352nd (35.59). Sunderland Stroller Steve McMahon was 478th (37.17). Winchester’s Louise Damen won the women’s race in (33.04).
