SUNDERLAND’S Olympic marathon hopeful Alyson Dixon set off for Kenya today after securing the funding needed to make the trip to the high altitude training centre at Iten.
She was helped with a £500 donation from Sunderland Strollers towards the costs of over £2,000 for the month-long stay.
After being on the sidelines for months, she is nearly back to full marathon training and clocked 110 miles last week.
At Iten, she will meet up with Paula Radcliffe and Mo Farah and expects to do some runs with them.
When she returns, she will target the Bourton 10k on February 25 with a half-marathon at either Alloa or Liverpool on March 18.
