Ashbrooke triple take Marshall Trophy

SUNDERLAND’S trio of Jean Graham, Janet Sykes and Susan Almond lifted the Sunderland Women’s Bowls Association’s Marjorie Marshall Trophy at Barnes West End.

The Ashbrooke trio defeated Barnes Park’s Linda Forrest, Val Bambrough and Ethel Pattinson 14-6 in the final.

Sunderland beat Silksworth 14-7 in their semi-final, while Barnes Park saw off Roker Park by the same score.

On finals day, £210 was raised and will be donated to St Benedict’s Hospice.

* The SWBA singles and pairs have reached the semi-final stages and will be played to a finish at Barnes Park on Thursday (10am start).

The singles semi-final line-up sees Ann Raine (Thompson Park) take on Evelyn Barkes (Silksworth), while Roker Marine’s Alice Curtis meets Pauline Charleton (Ryhope).

The pairs semi-finals are at Thompson Park on Monday (10am start). Silksworth’s Evelyn Barkes and Norma Stephenson face Alice Curtis and Pat Wayman (Roker Marine), while Angela Westray and Pauline Charlton, of Ryhope, tackle Barnes Park pair Doreen Kerrigan and Ann Callaghan.

* Durham County Ladies B team’s hopes of retaining the Stella Logan League title have been resurrected with a 9-2 win over group leaders Lancashire at Darlington Woodlands. Durham are now only four points behind Lancashire with two games to play.
