Washington Snooker made a strong statement with this week's 4-0 result against the Avenue who were the second placed team in Group One and opened a six-point gap between the top two in the table.
Phil Baker found his form with a 70/35 win against Gary Moore and Graham Rutland stopped the run of recent successes by Colin Cruddace with a 50/30 victory in the second.

Dave Southwick pushed them further ahead in the third and Rutland/Baker won
a terrific pairs frame by recovering to win 46/45.

Farringdon and the Railway fought out a 2-2 draw with some interesting frames during the game. Fred Warren was in impressive form in beating Paul Grant in the first frame. Colin Wrathmall is making a habit of coming from behind and he left it late before taking the black to win by one point and level the game.

Dave Robinson, the Scarlet Pimpernel of the Farringdon team, had a 24 break in putting Farringdon ahead in the last single before the Railway took the pairs frame to share the points.

South Hylton B is proving to be the surprise package in this group and, following last week's draw at the Railway, visited Mill View and started strongly when taking the two opening singles with Ed Norton and Chris Watkins being the successful players.

John Burnell responded in fine manner by taking the third 74/19 before Farringdon produced a 3-1 result by taking the pairs.

Steels and Shields Snooker are pulling away from the rest of the teams in Group Two although a delayed game could still have a bearing on the final placings.

Tom Stavers of Shields A had a fine 54 break in his singles against South Hylton C after Craig Barron had given the home team a start in the first.

Ritchie Milner took Shields further ahead in the third frame before Darren Brown/Shaun Hauxwell had an impressive result in taking the pairs to register a consolation for Hylton.

Pennywell Comrades and Steels B played a 2-2 draw with Dean Taylor proving the victor against Tom Feenan in the first frame, before D Nulty responded by levelling in the second scoring 76 points in the process.

Steve Joyce was at his best in restoring the lead for Pennywell before a very close pairs frame was eventually won by Steels with Feenan/McLaren beating the S and D Taylor in a 54/52 score line.

Steels A and Pennywell Comrades share the lead in Group Three although Steels have won more games than Pennywell.

In their match against Farringdon A Tom Ayres won a great first frame 54/50 against Ryan McKenna to set the pattern for the night. The position was further improved as Jim Gales dominated the second and Ken Hale beat Gary Burden 59/44 in the third. A one sided pairs saw Steels dominate to seal the result with a 4-0 success.

South Hylton A seem to be involved in a close game and another fine match saw Joe Turner and Mark Anderson take the first two frames for Pennywell Comrades A before Kevin Harrop fought back to pull one back with a 67/64 score in the third frame.

The pairs frame was controlled by Dave McGuire who had breaks of 36 and 33 in forcing a 2-2 draw to complete the recovery.

Grindon and the Victory are old adversaries and the game ended 2-2.

The monthly meeting will be at the Avenue on Thursday, July 2 when early applicants for the winter season will be appreciated.
