The Duck continued their impressive first season of competitive snooker in Division Two of the Carling Sunderland Snooker League, with a 5-0 win against Victory Club.
It was fairly comfortable as most of the frames had conclusive winning results.

St Gabriel's played two weeks' matches, winning 4-1 against the Railway and losing 4-1 to Seaham Cons.

Against Railway, Steve Hagel had a good result in beating Jo
e Beston 55-31 and Tony Grimes beat Norman Lynn 43-25.

A much closer third frame went to Fred Warren with a tight 45-43 score against Ken Rackstraw. Bill Longley then restored the lead in winning the fourth with a colour clearance. Longley then completed a double as he was joined by Grimes in winning the pairs.

Seaham Cons had Murton Vic as visitors and entertained them royally by losing the first two frames, although the first was a close affair as Robin Midson only beat Ken Gibson 51-42.

Gordon Elliot and Mick Monaghan took the last two singles to level before two young players in Anthony Monaghan and Graham Willis took the pairs to complete the recovery.

Washington Union had Brian McDonald to thank for giving them a start against Hylton B, who needed Neil Brigham, a recent signing, to level in the second.

Gary Usher won a low-scoring third frame for Hylton and Joe Morley responded for Washington. A 27 break by Usher was instrumental in winning the pairs as, joined by Brigham, they won the decider for a 3-2 result.

The First Division is still boiling with an exciting battle at the top of the table.

South Hylton A won 4-1 against Mill View A but most of the frames were well contested and could have gone either way.

An impressive performance by Farrindon A in beating Pennywell B saw them win all the frames to gain a point on the top team.

Ryan McKenna had a 34 break in the first frame against Dean Taylor before Gary Burdon had a tough fight in the second before beating Stuart Taylor 47-41.

The lead was increased as Ian Stewart took the third and Mick McLoughlin had a 32 break in winning the fourth. Gary Burdon was dressed to kill in the pairs and with breaks of 36 and 33 dominated the frame as, joined by Tony Hazard they won 74-1 for the whitewash.

Another team on a run is Whitburn, who kept the pressure on the top group with a 5-0 victory against Farringdon B.

Jason Rodgers with a 28 break and Craig Barron with a 29 break gave Whitburn the early advantage and this was maintained as Ernie Lunney and John Smith took the last two singles. White and Barron took the pairs 57-17 to complete a perfect victory.

It was good to see that Paul Kirsop was in top form for the Avenue in the first frame against Steels A before Tom Ayre responded with a win against Gary Moore. Bob Fisher beat Ken Haley and Jim Gales levelled in the fourth. Moore and Fisher took the deciding pairs frame 68-17 for a 3-2 result.

South Shields Snooker won the two opening frames against Pennywell Comrades A before Joe Turner took the third. Wayne Foreman restored the lead and, with Ritchie Milner, took the pairs for a 4-1 result.

In the match between local rivals Woodside and Green Baize, the away team started well as P Dambrosie and Dean Wilson took the opening frames before Carl Grimmer, with a 36 break, pulled one back in the third.

Craig Kane had a 41 break in restoring the lead and joined Jeff Burn in the pairs for a 4-1 success.

Adam Smith had a 39 break for Steels B as they overcame Seaham Knack 4-1 with Will Cowell claiming a consolation for the Knack.
