BRANDON United have escaped relegation from the Second Division of the Arngrove Northern League following Whitehaven's failure to qualify for promotion from the Wearside League.
The Cumbrians were pipped for the runners-up position by Jarrow, who needed to win their final game of the season at Annfield Plain last night.

First-half goals by Craig Armstrong and Dean Patton put them in the driving seat, but the home side passed up a couple of good, late chances before Jarrow held on for a crucial victory, ensuring their highest-placed finish in the league, beating the previous best of fifth, with 76 points – nine better than their record.

Jarrow leapfrogged Whitehaven – good news for Brandon who ended bottom of the ANL Second Division with just two wins and four draws in 38 games.

Champions New Marske clinched a treble when they defeated Wolviston 3-1 after extra time in the Wearside League Cup Final.

Hosts Wolviston led until the 89th minute courtesy of Liam McPhillips, but, with time running out, Shaun Mackin claimed a dramatic equaliser.

New Marske had the better of extra time and clinched victory thanks to goals by Martin Say and Mackin.
