Wooden-spoonists Silksworth Community were within five minutes of causing one of the upsets of the season on Saturday.
They were very much the underdogs at Whitehaven, who needed all three points to keep alive their chances of finishing runners-up to champions New Marske.

And the omens did not look good for Silksworth when they went behind after only four minutes,
Michael Farrer firing past keeper Andrew Curtis after good work by Kevin Law and Carl McGrady.

To their credit, Silksworth battled back brilliantly and rocked the hosts with a 27th-minute equaliser. Shaun Smith, back after injury, completed a good move which started in defence.

Silksworth looked like hanging on for a point, but Whitehaven finally broke down the Wearsiders' solid rearguard in the 85th minute when Craig Robson struck to clinch a priceless 2-1 win.

The Cumbrians could still miss out on second place, after Jarrow claimed a fine 4-1 win over Ryhope CW. Richard Stubbs and Andrew Barclay had them two up, but Michael Turnbull threw Ryhope a 40th-minute lifeline.

Barclay and Craig Armstrong, though, sealed Jarrow's win. They will be runners-up if they win at Annfield Plain on Wednesday.
Ryhope, who will finish in the top six, finish at home to Cleator Moor tonight.

Annfield Plain outgunned Hartlepool 3-1, thanks to Stephen Kirkbride, Paul Henderson and Chris Magee. Stephen Chapman replied.

Boldon CA lost 7-4 to New Marske, who stormed five up by half-time.

Alex Anderson (2), Shaun Mackin (2), Gary Wood, Kristian Kamara and Craig Gibbon sealed the champs' win, while David Hopper (2), Stephen Williams and Paul Burrell replied.
