PAUL "The Master" Williams is determined to build on his success at the BDO Welsh Open.
Williams made a big impression at Prestatyn, coming through more than 1,000 entries to reach the last 16.

He was only beaten by eventual winner, and world No.1, Gary Anderson – just prior to the televised rounds.

Williams (left) returned from W
ales in great spirits and duly maintained his 100 per cent record in the Premier Division of the McCees Wearside League on Tuesday.

He triumphed 5-1 against impressive Dave Wyness, taking two legs in 18 darts, plus others in 20 and 22, with a checkout of 80. Wyness won his solitary leg in 20 darts.

Williams also got the better of "Jarra Arra" Billy Todd 5-3 in a match worthy of any stage, with both men averaging in the high 90s.

Williams took his superb five legs in 15, 17 (twice), 18 and 21 darts, with a 76 finish. Todds replied in 19 and 21 darts (twice).

Brian Duncan survived a scare from Todd next as he kept up a good run to win 5-3. Todd twice won in 19 darts, but Duncan responded with legs in 18 and 19 before clinching victory on double 15.

Duncan also had a 17-darter in a 5-1 defeat of Norman Williams.

John Turnbull claimed outstanding outshots of 100, 80 and 75 as he outgunned Norman Williams 5-1.

Eric Whitfield piled on the misery for lowly Norman Place, who fought with great heart but was sunk 5-0 by legs in 16, 17 and 18 darts.

Sue Edwards roared 4-0 up against Andy King, with stunning legs in 15, 16 and 17 darts, including an 82 outshot. She had darts to seal a 5-0 whitewash only to see King take three legs on the trot. Edwards, however, slotted a 180 before sealing victory on double eight.

In Division One, on-song 13-year-old Jamie Scott, the league's youngest player, mauled promotion hopeful Steve Richardson 5-0.

Richardson hit an early maximum, but Scott (right) showed his precocious talent with an 18-darter and superb finishes of 88 and 105.

Lee Rump saw off Darren Johnston 5-2 with two 17-darters maintain his promotion bid.

Neil Hardy also excelled with a 5-0 win over David Turnbull, with two 20-dart legs and a 100 outshot.

Dave Lowthian saw off the ever tricky Paul Charters 5-1. Charters won his leg in 20 darts, but Lowthian's array of superb checkouts – 82, 78 and 99 – secured wins in 21, 19 and 18 darts.

Lowthian also outgunned Steph Webster 5-1 before Webster lost out 5-2 to high-flying Marco Laybourne. Laybourne had 103 and 98 outshots, plus a 180, after trailing when Webster enjoyed a 70 finish.

Results, Premier Div: Paul Williams 5 Dave Wyness 1, Brian Duncan 5 Billy Todd 3, John Turnbull 5 Norman Williams 1, Eric Whitfield 5 Norman Place 0, Sue Edwards 5 Andy King 3, Norman Williams 1 Brian Duncan 5, Paul Williams 5 Billy Todd 3

Div One: Jamie Scott 5 Steve Richardson 0, Lee Rump 5 Darren Johnston 2, Neil Hardy 5 David Turnbull 0, Dave Lowthian 5 Paul Charters 1, Steph Webster 2 Marco Laybourne 5, Dave Lowthian 5 Steph Webster 1
