COVENTRY are reeling from a double defensive blow ahead of Sunday's season-opener against Sunderland.
It has been confirmed that Sky Blues defender Wayne Andrews broke his ankle in Saturday's pre-season game against Boavista.
He scored Coventry's goal after going on as a second-half substitute but was stretchered off later in the game and a scan h
as confirmed a fracture.
Veteran defender Robert Page (back) and Mikkel Bischoff (ankle) are also major doubts for the Black Cats' televised visit, leaving boss Micky Adams with only two fit centre-backs, Matt Heath and Elliott Ward.
Meanwhile, Coventry have rejected a third Birmingham City bid for striker Gary McSheffrey.
Managing director Paul Fletcher: "The club's stance remains the same – we are not interested in selling Gary McSheffrey. We've told Birmingham often enough and we just wish they would get on with their season and let us get on with our's."
City have appealed against McSheffrey's dismissal in the 2-1 loss to Boavista, hoping to avoid a three-match ban which would not commence until 14 days from the game.
Coventry, meanwhile, are set to launch another attempt to get their hands on Hartlepool keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos.
The Sky Blues saw a £150,000 bid turned down by Pools 10 days ago but boss Mickey Adams still has only one senior keeper on his books in Andy Marshall.
The Midlands club have a substantial budget and it is believed they are willing to double their original offer.
As well as Coventry, Cardiff City, Leeds United and Swansea are also beieved to be interested.
