Capello call took me by surprise - Owen

MICHAEL Owen has admitted his half-time call from England coach Fabio Capello almost caught him off guard.
The Newcastle United striker – who had gone into the friendly on a high after scoring in successive club games – made his first appearance under Capello in last night's 1-0 defeat to France in Paris.
With England trailing to a 32nd-minute Frank Ribery penalty, Owen replaced Wayne Rooney for the second half at the Stade de France.
But hr had a frustrating 45 minutes as his team-mates struggled to provide any kind of service.
Afterwards he revealed he had not expected to get on until later in the game.
Owen said: "It's always nice to play. When you're on the bench, you've got to be mentally prepared to get on, and it happened a bit earlier than expected.
"It was good to get a half under my belt, but you always want more. You want to score and get a result, but it wasn't to be."
