GRINDON Social succeeded in their attempt of remaining undefeated over the season with a 5-0 win against the Victory in the Second Division of the Westoe Removals Sunderland League.
Neil Brigham, Jim Tutty, Alan Mustard and Gary Burdon all won their singles comfortably, with the pairs match between Stan Campbell and Dave Burnikell and Alan Mustard and Neil Brigham providing the only close frame.
Biddick A finished runners-up, well clear of the third placed team.
Biddick B won 4-1 against Cheemas to grab the third place in the table.
Michael Simpson, Peter Mill and John Temple took the first three singles. Michael Austin claimed the fourth for Cheemas. Austin then joined Lee Champion in the pairs but lost against Philip Straughan and Peter Mills of Biddick.
Murton officials visited Washington Union and they started badly as they lost the two opening frames to Brian McDonald and Bill Bulch. Jimmy Ashcroft and Robin Midson levelled and twinned in winning the pairs.
St Gabriel’s beat Seaham Cons 4-1 with Bill Longley and Steve Hagel winning the first two frames before Michael Monaghan replied for the Cons. Ken Rackstraw restored St Gabriel’s lead in the fourth and was joined by Tony Grimes in winning the pairs against Ian Hughes and Gordon Elliott of the Cons.
The Duck beat Railway 3-2.
